About Us

Mmakuba lodge is nestled in the malaria free Limpopo province. Among glades of mature, exquisite indigenous trees, this paradise is calling for nature lovers and bird watchers. Our colourful, sophisticated chalets are spaced out amid shady trees, and offer our guests’ en-suite, comfortable and clean accommodation in a unique blend of luxury African ambiance. Mmakuba lodge spreads over 600 hectares and offers superb game viewing, true wilderness and quality breakaways for families and corporate companies. This owner run establishment is only 2 hours away from OR Thambo just outside Mookgophong in Limpopo province. The sweeping views over the world heritage Waterberg biosphere will bring you inner peace and equilibrium while you listen to the soothing sound of true nature.

Our rooms and game lodge facilities are well equipped for smaller groups, independent travelers and ideal for corporate strategic breakaway sessions, our game lodge can accommodate up to 40 guests. Guests can relax in our comfortable and spacious chalets or stretch out under the African sun on their private decks Enjoy a braai in our boma under a canopy of African starlight, the aromatic scents of ‘braaivleis’ or hearty ‘potjie’ lingering around a crackling open fire, while the calls of nearby wildlife enhance that unmatchable sense of mystery of the African bush.

The owners and management team placed great emphasis on restoring and rehabilitating Mmakuba and its incumbent wildlife species. Game breeding projects are introduced to re-establish species which roamed originally in the area.

Accommodation

The lodge has 17 tastefully furnished chalets providing single, double or family accommodation, all with private bathrooms offering a bath and/or shower. Rooms are furnished with an African baroque theme providing a magical atmosphere, complemented with spectacular mountain views, and private sun decks. Chalets are in close proximity to the restaurant, pool and bar area. Each unit has coffee/tea making facilities, and mini bar fridge. The lodge can accommodate a total of 40 guests.

Your security is our concern and our 24 hour guard patrol will safeguard you a peaceful stay.

Activities

The activities on offer all involve wildlife and nature conservation.  Thrilling early morning, afternoon and evening game drives offer guests the opportunity to meet leopard and other animals such as kudu, zebra, wildebeest, rooihartbeest, blesbuck and giraffe in close encounters.  Equipped open game viewing vehicles allow for comfort and best game viewing, the game rangers provide insightful information about the flora and fauna. Families experience a memorable, educational and fun family safari here at Mmabuka lodge.

At dusk, a vantage point is chosen overlooking one of the many breath-taking views. Sundowners are enjoyed while tales of the bush are told and a glimpse of what this unique wilderness has to offer is seen while being entranced by the ever changing colours of the sky as the sun slips into the timeslot of tomorrow.

Welcome to a breath-taking haven of fresh air swiftly passing through the Waterberg Mountains where you can exploit a variety of fauna and flora in the area. There are excellent photographic opportunities with panoramic views of the Waterberg at its best. Morning Safaris begin with a knock at your door, as your personal guide does the rounds to wake his guests. Get up, dress adequately and make your way to the main lodge for a warming cup of coffee or juice to start off the experience.

Our guides and trackers know the farm like the back of their hands and will confer to read the tracks, sounds and sights of the veld to find the hidden areas where the animals congregate.

The Lodge Restaurant overlooks our magnificent mountain backdrop. For those who favour early morning exploration trips (especially in the hot summer), breakfast is served from 8am – 11am, after which our mouthwatering buffet takes over for lunch and super. Indulge in fresh South African cuisine and indigenous spices on a spacious sundowner deck for an unforgettable Mmakuba experience. Meals at Mmakuba lodge are a relaxed affair, and tailored to your individual requirements. Our restaurant prepares a feast that can be served in the thatched dining area, on the open decking or around the campfire in our open-air boma. Settle in for the evening while our chefs prepare delicious dishes to tempt your taste buds. Our spit braai tradition became renowned among guests and is truly an experience not to be missed.
